Recovering missing folder option on tool menu list

Folder Options recovery

Recently, I came across with a virus, which simply makes you “Folder Options” invisible, and creating great troubles for me. Firstly I thought that it was some windows file that could have gone corrupt, and then i thought of running the setup once again. But when I saw what changes have been made to my registry, I saw a small change, a new DWORD value was created. Changing the value did the trick and i was successfully able to see the Folder Options and do the desired changes. If you are facing this problem too, Here is what I did.
1. Go to Start –> Run, type Regedit.
2. Go to HKEY CURRENT USER / SOFTWARE / MICROSOFT / WINDOWS /
CURRENTVERSION / POLICIES / EXPLORER
3. You will find a DWORD value “NoFolderOptions” and its value as “1“.
4. Change its value from ” 1” to “0“.
The folder options should now work properly. If in case you need to hide Folder Options then this is a cool trick as well.

  2. @ Grace, you are most welcome, It may also be caused by some types of virus that would want to prevent you from seeing their process and the new folders/ or files they may be creating on your system.

  3. yes, I agree with you. Most viruses usually hide themselselves in the registry and even when removed, they usually come back after restarting the computer because of the system restore. So I usually find it necessary to turn off system restore first, then remove the virus and do full system scan, then restart the computer. After I am sure the viruse is gone I can turn on the system restore back

  4. That is a very promising proceedure to deal with virus on a PC, your comment is well accepted. Most of viruses are not as deadly as they are made to appear,.. They become deadly depending on how you handle them from the moment they attack your PC. Just but to add to your point.... its also vital to disconnect the network or internet from the affected PC untill you completely remove the Nirus.
